An Earth Summit Safari...

Earth Summit Big 5 Safari  in the Shambala Private Reserve - home of theNelson Mandela Centre for Reconciliation

[Back to press releases]

From the 30th August - 5th September your VIP guests can experience an evening around a campfire in the company of world leaders - just one reason that sets this safari apart.

In the rugged Waterberg Mountains of the Northern Province, two hours drive north of bustling Johannesburg, is Shambala Private Reserve, a twenty five thousand acre sanctuary for the wild creatures of Africa, and an inspiration and a balm for all who are privileged to visit there.

This bushland paradise is also the home of the Nelson Mandela Reconciliation Centre, a visionary creation that is both a fitting personal retreat for the man himself and a refined place apart where national and international leaders can come together in the pursuit of peace and progress

The Earth Summit is the ideal opportunity to enable representatives from many parts of the world to experience this remarkable place and the inspirational concept behind it.

The breakaway takes the form of a two-day VIP safari. Guests are taken from their hotels to a country airstrip and then flown to Shambala Private Reserve, where highly qualified game rangers guide them personally into camp. They step sharply back in time into the delightfully different world of Hayward's Luxury Safari Camp, an authentic re-creation of African safari life in the grand manner as it was a hundred years ago.

The dynamic team of Hayward's personal Butlers settle each guest in to their safari accommodation, and after hot showers, drinks and hors d'oeuvres are served around the welcoming camp fire as the red sun sets over the horizon.

Dinner, served in classic safari style, is a five-course five-star affair, followed by the powerful African Extravaganza show - world class entertainment set on the edge of a parched waterhole is performed on stage. For those wishing to linger and enjoy the distant roar of lions accompanied by the mournful cry of hyena, fine Cape brandies and hand-rolled cigars are served around the safety of our camp fire

Daybreak brings early morning coffee and a stimulating drive on open vehicles to see abundant game and sites of special interest in the reserve. Shambala is being developed as a unique centre for animal breeding programs such as lion, rhino (black & white), leopard, buffalo, elephant and the rare Cape hunting dog, sable antelope and cheetah. The reserves focus of conservation and education for community development projects is also presented.

Back in camp, guests enjoy an ample safari breakfast and are then taken back to the helicopter for a final flight back over the vast Waterberg Biosphere to rendezvous with charter flights back to Johannesburg.

This "Not for Profit Event" presents a dynamic African safari opportunity for both Earth Summit Delegations and South African Corporates.

Prices are extremely competitive.
